 Hawaiian Lomi lomi

Picture
Enhancing the most well known therapeutic massage by blending Hawaiian techniques. This is a great combination because both styles are ideal for relaxing and rejuvenating the body by improving circulation and flexibility, and relieving muscle tension, stress, and energy blockages. It may feel familiar to those who usually receive a typical spa Swedish-style treatment, but Lomilomi (Hawaiian meaning “massage”) is a holistic healing tradition beyond simple massage.

This massage is done like a hula with 1-2-3 rhythm, may be gentle or vigorous, and the rhythmic strokes kept continuous and flowing using fingertips, thumbs, knuckles, palms, forearms, and elbows in pressing, kneading, friction, and hacking movements.  I find that when receiving massage with a rhythmic pattern such as lomilomi, the body’s nervous system can relax, and muscles are more open to allow deeper work.  It is always however, done with a gentle loving touch that is aloha.

As in most circulatory massage work, massage oil is applied while addressing sections of the body, keeping the rest of the body comfortably draped.  Aromatherapy oils can be used for this massage if desire
